 Heritage Plaques

A number of plaques were erected on Friday, July 14th around The Square in Abbeyfeale and their impact was almost immediate.

On Sunday an Italian couple stopped to stretch their legs while passing through and were amazed when they saw the plaque detailing the visit of Princess Cristina Belgiojoso to Batt Harnett’s which in times past was Leahy’s Inn.

They got talking to the man who applied for the grant for the plaques – the chairman of ACC and told him that they couldn’t believe their eyes as their daughter who is a teacher had done her thesis on the Princess and they were now ringing her to tell her that the Princess had been in Abbeyfeale in the dim and distant past.
