A reminder that on this Friday night at 9pm in the Shoemaker’s Bar, Nuala and Steve Curtin are facilitating a Mike Kenny memorial event.

The late Mr. Kenny’s mid 1980s painting, The Shoemaker – which was rediscovered in the store-room of the bar recently – will re-unveil by Matt Cranitch and he will be joined by Jackie Daly and musicians from far and wide in a tune in memory of the artist.

Session in the Front Bar

They will then proceed to the front, street-side bar and a session will get into flow immediately.

Local tradesman, Martin Nolan reunited the painting with its frame and hung it in the bar – where it hung for a decade up to the mid 1990s.

Troupe of Musicians

Matt and Jackie will be joined by a troupe of local musicians including: Mick Culloty, PJ Teahan, Paul de Grae, Mary Lawless, Con Moynihan and Denis O’Connor and Matt’s Japanese guests.

It was at 9:30pm on the Friday evening of August 12th. 2011 that Mike died in Kerry General Hospital.

There is also a full programme of events on over the weekend including a busking competition on the street on Saturday and the awarding of the Mike Kenny Memorial Cup to a young musician in Browne’s Bar on Saturday night.
