Today’s Accident at Mein Claims One Life

One man in his 60s has died and at least one other person has been injured in a road traffic accident at Mein on the Castleisland to Headley’s Bridge road at lunchtime today.

The road is still closed and will remain so for some time as Gardaí are diverting traffic at Meinleitrim and Headley’s Bridge away from the accident area this evening.

The accident occurred in the vicinity of the former Mein National School now The Captain’s Table and it is believed that a van and a truck were involved in the fatal collision.

Gardai have said that the road will remain closed for several hours and have advised people to find alternative routes around the scene until further notice.

The name of the accident victim is being withheld until all next of kin have been informed.
