As we mark the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Patrick O’Keeffe Traditional Music Festival here in Castleisland we have also been remembering the friends we’ve lost since that milestone a quarter of a century ago.

The late Mike Kenny and his enormous contribution to the first two decades of the event were spoken of by several contributors to Friday night launch at the River Island Hotel.

I happened upon this photograph of the late Anthony Cronin and myself taken during the 2016 festival weekend.

Great Source of Support

Always a great source of moral and financial support to the festival committee over the years, Anthony passed away on August 3rd of this year after a long and spirited battle with illness.

The festival is going well with all estimations indicating that crowds are up on previous years.

Outstanding Singing Performances

A fantastic singing afternoon on Saturday under bean a’ tí Aileen Roantree featured outstanding performances from: Mickey MacConnell, Tim Dennehy, Don Stiffe and festival first timers, Muireann Nic Amhlaibh and Dónal Clancy.

We await the special 25th. anniversary concert tonight from 8pm at the River Island Hotel and that too is expected to draw a capacity crowd as it has an all-star line up. There is music in all the pubs again tonight and all day tomorrow. See more on line at: http://www.patrickokeeffefestival.com
