New Running / Walking Track

Brosna GAA Club, in conjunction with local walking group Brosna Couch to 5K launched the newly resurfaced track and outdoor PA system recently with a large crowd in attendence.

The inclement weather conditions earlier in the day did not deter all those eager to restart the new year with a fitness theme in mind.

Upgrade Became a Reality

The club looked at this project in 2017 when the existing track was in need of a facelift and when Brosna Couch to 5K came on board the upgrade became a reality.

John Murphy and Coolcullen Construction left no stone unturned and completed the new facility on time.

Brosna Couch to 5K group began its13 week programme which runs every Monday and Wednesday from 7pm to 8pm culminating in a 5K walk/run on Satuday April 14th.

Neighbouring Parishes in Support

“We wish to thank everyone from the locality and from the neighbouring parishes of Rockchapel, Mountcollins, Knocknagoshel and further afield who have been supporting our group and runs” said group chairperson Noel Lane.

The cost of the project was met when both Brosna GAA Club and Brosna Couch to 5K joined forces to pay for the development.

Funding was also recieved from Mounteagle Windfarm, Kerry County Council and the Munster Council of the GAA towards underground ducting work.

Launch by Athletics Hero

Local runner James Doran was on hand to cut the tape at the site where it all began for his glittering athletics career.

New members are very welcome with the club also signing up to the National GAA Operation Transformation initiative which  runs for six weeks commencing this week.

New PA System

Anyone who attended the launch were treated to refreshments as music echoed through the new state of the art PA system encompassing nine speakers around the track.

“We’re delighted to be able to provide a safe environment for all walkers and users with this fabulous floodlit facility,” said Brosna GAA Club Chairman Mikey Walsh.
