St. Mary’s Basketball Club’s senior ladies will step on court for one of the biggest encounters in their sporting lives at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght later on today.

There they will contest the NICC Women’s Cup final.

Tip-Off at Noon

The girls face Dublin side Killester in the decider and the game will tip-off at 12 noon.

Club Chairman, Maurice Casey says it is great to have a senior team back in the spotlight.

“This is the biggest weekend of the year on the basketball calendar and it’s the one everyone wants to be a part of.

‘Best of Luck’ – Chairman Maurice

“It’s great to have a team from the club participating and I wish the girls and coach Liam Culloty the very best of luck,” said Maurice.

Coach, Liam Culloty came on board with the St. Mary’s ladies just last September. Liam previously played Super League with Tralee Tigers and National League with St. Brendan’s.

National Success

He has had national success coaching Tralee Imperials and has coached the Irish U-18 women’s team.

He is currently head coach for the Ireland U-17 women’s squad.

En-route to the final St. Mary’s had success over: Templeogue; Portlaoise Panthers and Maree. Many members of this squad have previously enjoyed national success at various levels but, regardless of this, they will not be taking anything for granted today.

Today’s Panel

The St. Mary’s panel is as follows: Aoife Nolan, captain; Eileen O’Connor, Mary Herlihy, Denise Dunlea, Lorraine Scanlon, Sarah O’Sullivan, Emma Dineen, Orla White, Katie Reidy, Ciara Ryan, Nicole Downey, Rachel Ryan and Labhaoise Walmsley.

The good news for anyone who ccould’t travel today is that the games are expected to be live streamed.
