“We’re in total shock and disgusted that vandals would strike for the third time in an attempt to destroy the memory of our late aunty, Martina Cronin in her final resting place in Brosna.”

So said Benny Thade McCarthy – a nephew of the woman whose memorial has been tampered with on several occasions over the past couple of years.

Photograph Stolen from Memorial

“We were horrified at the weekend to discover that the photograph of Martina was stolen from her plaque again. Over three years ago the photo was broken off and a few months later the plaque was removed from the graveyard and placed at our door at home in Duagh with the stand at the back of the plaque broken off,” said Benny.

Permission from KCC

“Since then permission was given by the Kerry County Council to erect the plaque on the wall of the new cemetery in Brosna away from everyone’s way.

“It has been on the wall three years and last weekend we were shocked to see that Martina’s photo was stolen.

No Respect for Martina

“What the ones doing this don’t realise is that they are showing no respect for Martina and her memory and I am calling on those involved to stop and let the poor woman rest in peace.

“She suffered with cancer for over three years and she was loved by one and all and was a really kind hearted lady.

Should be Totally Ashamed

“The people doing this should be totally ashamed of themselves and they are no strangers to us and everyone knows who they are.

“The local Gardi are investigating this matter and three local people have been questioned in relation to the desecration of the memorial,” said Mr. McCarthy.
