The winner of the Mike Kenny Remembrance Week Young Musician Award is Abbeyfeale singer and teenager, Eibhlín Broderick.
Eibhlín began her singing career at five years age with her local Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireannn branch at Halla Inse Bán in Templeglantine.
Masters in Traditional Song
A recent term as a student at the University of Limerick saw her graduate with a Masters in Irish Traditional Music Performance in the area of Traditional Song.
Eibhlín cites the likes of Karen Walsh-Trench from Listowel and Evelyn O’Connell from Brosna as major local influences on her singing to date.
She is a winner of five All-Ireland solo titles in recent years in singing and lilting.
Music Mad Family
From a music mad family, Eibhlín’s siblings are all musically incliuned and the house rings with the sounds of banjo, fiddle and, of course, vocals.
Eibhlín received the Mike Kenny Memorial Cup from its sponsor and the late artist’s cousin, Ted Kenny at Browne’s Bar on Saturday evening.
Debut CD Release
Eibhlín released her debut CD, My Silver River Feale in the run up to last Christmas. It is available to purchase in Ann Lyons shop, The Square, Abbeyfeale and Pat Buckley’s, Devon Road Cross, Templeglantine.
Latest Singing Triumph
Eibhlín is a daughter of Michael and Eileen Broderick and they were present on Saturday evening to witness her latest singing triumph.
I’m sure there will be many more.
If you’d like to hear a sample of Eibhlín’s vocal talents, here is a piece that was arranged for her undergraduate final performance which took place in May 2016. She is accompanied here by Felix Morgenstern on bodhrán and by her brother Liam on vocals and Cian O’Flynn, Sean Nós Dancing. Just Click on the link here.
