The organising committee behind St. Mary’s Basketball Club National League Ladies Team is to hold a fundraising ‘Monster Bingo Session’ at Castleisland Community Centre on Tuesday August 28th.

Prize Fund of €4,250

A total prize-fund of €4,250 must be won on the night including a guaranteed jackpot of €1,000.

The players and officials will also conduct a bag packing day in Garvey’s SuperValu on Friday,August 24th. And they appeal for the support of the locality in their efforts.

Return to the Big-Time

The fund-raising drive comes in advance of the return of big-time basketball to Castleisland Community Centre over the winter months.

The ladies team will compete for national honours at home and away.

With almost all the neighbouring parishes involved in the team in one way or another, the community centre is certain to be a cauldron of the kind of gripping drama which the game generates.

Announced in June

The club announced in June that its ladies senior team will compete in the National League Division One competition over the coming season.

In the same swoop, Tom McCarthy of The Central Bar was announced as the main sponsor as he was at the time of the club’s last great triumph in 2012.

Focus of Attention

While the immediate focus of attention will be the ‘Monster Bingo’ night at the community centre and other fundraising initiatives, sporting minds will be very much drawn to the winter nights ahead and the white heat of National Basketball League action.
