Castleisland RFC Presents Bucket Cheque for €1,149 to Hospice

Denis Cronin (right) Castleisland Rugby Club, presents Chairman of Castleisland Hospice fundraising committee, Jack Shanahan with a cheque for €1,149 from the January Split the Bucket Draw.

As promised by ‘the bucket crew’ from Castleisland RFC the Palliative Care Unit of the Kerry Hospice Foundation was the beneficiary of its half of the innovative ‘Split The Bucket Draw’ on its first event of 2019.

The presentation of the cheque was made last week by club representative, Denis Cronin to Jack Shanahan, Chairman of the Castleisland branch of the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

Increase in Prize-Money

The ongoing Split the Bucket draw is having a very positive effect on the facilities at Castleisland RFC and day to day running of the club according to chairman, Dan Casey.

The popularity and success of the draw can be gauged by the increase in the prize-money from the first week in September launch to last Saturday night’s draw – incidentally both were held in Kearney’s Bar.

Grown from €592 to €1,220

That first draw on September 7th yielded €592 for Maria Sheehan from Brosna – while, in last Saturday night’s round, Melissa and Selina O’Grady benefited from their €2 investment to the tune of: €1,243.

Pat Jameson was the first winner to break the €1,000 mark when his envelope emerged from the drum and with it winnings of €1,220.

Winnings Heading for €30,000

Since it began, the winnings have almost reached the €30,000 mark in the general locality and that’s likely to continue its upward spiral as the popularity of the concept continues in the same direction.

The club buckets can be found in all the pubs locally and in shops throughout the area.

You just put your €2 in the envelope with your name and telephone number and pop it into the bucket and wait for the call.

To date, close on €30,000 has been won by locals in the various public houses where the draws are held weekly.
