“People are just great,” was Eileen O’Connor’s delighted reaction to the amount donated to the Christmas Crib Fundraiser conducted by herself and her husband Thomas outside their home at Headley’s Bridge, Knocknagoshel.

“We got donations from all over the area and beyond and we had a cheque for €2,845 to present to the Chemotherapy Day Ward at University Hospital Kerry on Monday evening,” said Eileen.

At First Hand

Eileen is a breast cancer survivor and has seen at first hand the services available to patients and she understands that fundraising efforts and donations such as theirs are vital to the running of these services.

Eileen and Thomas have presented their ‘crib collections’ to a variety of charities since they first set it up with a donations box outside their home at Headley’s Bridge in 2012.

Spreading the Word

Back then they collected just over €100 but have been spreading the word throughout the area since and, signs on, this week’s cheque reached the impressive figure they gladly donated on Monday.

“People are just great and we feel we need to thank them all for their generosity and let them know that their donations have gone to a worthy cause,” said Eileen.
