A great night was had by all at our Cordal GAA Club Celebration Night at the Ballygarry House Hotel on February 16th.

First to be honored and presented with their junior county league medals were the B team members. And there was a big birthday surprise also in the course of the night.

1994 Minor Team

The Cordal 1994 minor team members were honoured 25 years on from their win in the East Kerry Minor Division 2 against Gneeveguilla.

They narrowly lost the county league final to Milltown/Castlemaine. They defeated Dr. Crokes on their way to the East Kerry Minor Championship Final and eventually losing to a Mike McCarthy inspired Kilcummin team.

Richard O’Donoghue’s Years of Service

Anyone involved in the Cordal GAA Club or in Kerry GAA circles over the last 30 years would know Richard O’Donoghue.

He’s one of the hardest working men we have seen in the club and he’s been working as secretary for seven or eight years and in many other capacities over the last three decades.

According to Richard himself he didn’t light up the playing field in his day but he made up for it off it.

Working Tirelessly

Richard worked with many a chairman down through the years such as: Der Flynn, Jimmy Roche and his great pal, Tom Wrenn – all missed by all of us in the club.

Richard has been working tirelessly for the last two years with Chairman Maurice Costello in getting our facilities and fields up to a level that is the envy of most clubs in the county.

Loyal Service

So, we decided to honour Richard for his dedication to Cordal GAA Club and to mark his upcoming 50th birthday.

So Richard thanks for all your loyal service to the club in times past and for your continued work for the club now and in the future.
