Castleisland Tidy Tidy Towns Committee members brought the increasingly dangerous state of the paving bricks on Main Street’s centre islands to the attention of Kerry County Council recently.

The surface had become uneven and dangerously slippery in places.

Remedial Work Needed

Local Kerry County Council engineer, Brendan Mulhern was approached and asked if the council could remedy the situation.

Work began in bad weather at the end of last month and the bricks have now been cleaned, lifted, leveled and re-bedded.

Councillors’ Allocations

“We received allocations from Cllr. Bobby O’Connell of €2,000; Cllr. John Joe Culloty, €5,000 and Cllr. Michael Gleeson, €2,000,” said local Tidy Towns spokesperson, Mary Walsh.

Built Environment Category

“We think it’s a fantastic job and so well done and our thanks to engineer, Brendan Mulhern and to the men who carried out the work, Martin Stephenson and Flor McAuliffe.

“This work can be entered in the Tidy Towns entry form in the Built Environment category and in the Tidiness category so we’re delighted,” said Ms. Walsh.
