The Late Curly Mike O’Connor

Castleisland Desmonds GAA Club members have expressed their thanks to the ambulance service and the Air Ambulance crew for their assistance at the pitch on Sunday, November 3rd.

“We also thank Dr. Dave Geaney and Pharmacist Aileen Lynch and all of those who did all they could and helped at the club grounds on this sad occasion,” said club PRO Gerdie Murphy.

“Their prompt response and the professional aid given to Mike is appreciated by the club and by his family.

“Mike was one of our most avid supporters but could express strong views when the team didn’t play the style of football that he expected from Desmonds.

“The esteem and respect in which he was held was evident from the huge attendance at his removal and funeral service.

“We thank club officers, players and members who formed the guard of honour and we appreciate the attendance of the chairman, secretary and other senior officers from the North Kerry board who attended.

“A minutes silence will be observed in Mike’s memory before the game in Duagh on Sunday.”

Seniors Face Ballyduff

Desmond’s play Ballyduff in the quarter final of the North Kerry Football Championship this Sunday at 2.pm. in Duagh.

We played well at stages in the last round against Listowel but Ballyduff has a good record in this competition losing last year’s final, after a replay, to Ballydonoghue and we will need to be at our best.

The winners will play Brosna in semi-final on Sunday, November 24th.

€6,600 Lotto Jackpot

The next club lotto draw takes place this Saturday,16th, in Browne’s Bar.

A jackpot of €6,600 would make an ideal Christmas present but you can’t win if you’re not in. Tickets are €2 each or three for a €5.

Referees’ Foundation Course

A foundation course for aspiring referees will be held on Friday, November 29th and December 6th at 7.30pm in Currans.
