On the Road Win for Team Tom’s

Meanwhile, Team Tom McCarthy’s St. Mary’s had a win on the road at the weekend, – according to PRO Liz Galwey.

The Castleisland side met U.L. Huskies on Sunday afternoon and were the stronger from the tip off and took control early in the first quarter.

They led by four points at the end of the first quarter. An aggressive ‘man to man’ defence in the second quarter saw them make steals, get fast breaks and register scores.

17 to 29 at Half-Time

The score at the half time interval was U.L. Huskies 17, Team Tom McCarthy’s 29.

The St. Mary’s side rotated players throughout the game and maintained control throughout the third quarter leading by 11 going into the final 10 minutes.

However, U.L. upped their game in the final quarter and quickly reduced the gap to three points before top scorer for the game, Denis Dunlea hit two threes to give her side a cushion once again.

Never in Danger

U.L. brought it back to three again as the clock ran down but Team Tom McCarthy’s were never in any real danger. Loretta Maher and Lorraine Scanlon were superb in their marking of the oppositions Americans and Emma Sherwood was once again invaluable.

Final Score: U.L. Huskies 43 – Team Tom McCarthy’s 46

The sides will meet again on Saturday in U.L. in the quarter final of the Division One Cup. Tip off in the PEZ building at U.L. Arena is at 5pm
