The coming Monday, January 20th. 2020 is the final date for entries to the ActionAid Student Speech Writing Competition.

ActionAid is encouraging students throughout Kerry to enter the competition which asks young people to analyse and highlight the links between climate change and women’s rights.

Between Ages 14 and 17

The competition is open to all secondary school students aged 14 to 17 and the first prize is a visit to Sweden in June 2020 for the top two students and their teachers.

The top ten students will be invited to Dublin to deliver their speech in front of an esteemed panel of judges in March 2020.

An Amazing Opportunity

This is an amazing opportunity for students and their teachers to engage with the leaders in our society who are actively campaigning on women’s rights, climate change, politics, youth and development, and gain first-hand experience of advocating for a fairer world at a societal level.

Choice of Topics

The choice of topics for the 2020 competition are: Climate change will only be solved through the inclusion and empowerment of women; As a result of gender inequality, women and girls are more likely to be exposed to disaster-induced risks than men; Climate change, poverty and gender equality are all interlinked and cannot be solved in isolation.

Funded by Irish Aid

The ActionAid Speech Writing Competition is funded by Irish Aid as part of a public engagement programme in Ireland to raise awareness and support for international development issues.

The competition continues to grow each year; last year we received 150 entries from over 48 schools across 22 counties in Ireland.

The national final will take place in March 2020 in Dublin’s Royal Irish Academy.
