Team Tom’s Overcome UL Challenge before Belfast Game

Team Tom McCarthy’s overcame the challenge of U. L. Huskies in Castleisland on Friday last in their Garvey’s SuperValu home game.

The home team controlled of the game from the tip-off, netting their first score just 40 seconds in. Their defence was excellent and they held Huskies to just eight points while registering 25, 16 of which came from Lorraine Scanlon.

Built on Early Lead

Team Tom McCarthy’s built on that lead in the second quarter.

Emma Sherwood was a huge threat and set up several of the scores for the home side which was unstoppable on the inside.

The St. Mary’s girls continued to defend well and this caused U.L. to incur five shot clock violations.

21 Point Lead

The home side held a comfortable 21 point lead going in to the third quarter. Cathy Grant, Meghan Buckley and Lynsey Purcell were prominent for Huskies but they were no match from Team Tom McCarthy’s who continued to control the game, all players getting valuable court time and contributing to the comprehensive win.

Final Score: Team Tom McCarthy’s 68 – U.L. Huskies 42.

Team Tom McCarthy’s travel to Belfast next weekend where they play Phoenix Rockets in the Methodist College Belfast, tip-off is at 3.30pm.
