The death has occurred of Timothy ‘Timmy’ Brosnan, Scart, Gortatlea, Ballymacelligott, Co. Kerry.
Peacefully on February 22nd 2020 at University Hospital Kerry surrounded by his loving family.
Predeceased by his parents Tadhg and Mary, brothers Thomas and John, sister Mary Anne.
Sadly missed by his sister-in-law Sheila, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
May His Gentle Soul Rest In Peace.
I tend to associate people with songs and not necessarily because they were singers. I remember the late Timmy Brosnan asking the now also departed Mike Kenny to sing The Parting Glass for him twice in one afternoon at Skevenas Bar and he obliged and added The Granemore Hare and sent out to Sheila Prendivillle’s Bar next door for his guitar and the needle was in the groove for that day.
Timmy is yet another of a breed from a rapidly disappearing Ireland. Someone remarked to me recently that all the characters are gone and there’s nothing or no one to replace them. Timmy played his part to the full while he was able.
The characters are there alright but their stages and their theatres have been taken from under them by a raft of creeping laws in recent decades and by the crippling tax burden on drink.
I spent it in good company.
And all the harm that e’er I’ve done
Alas, it was to none but me.
And all I’ve done for want of wit
To memory now I can’t recall.
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all.
Funeral Arrangements
Reposing at Tangney’s Funeral Home, Church Street, Castleisland, on Sunday evening from 4.30pm to 6pm.
Followed by removal to St. Brendan’s Church, Clogher, Ballymacelligott.
Requiem Mass on Monday at 11am. Burial afterwards in Clogher Cemetery.
