‘Cosaí’ Elected Cathaoirleach of Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne District

If the chain Fitz: The newly elected Cathaoirleach of Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District, Cllr. Seamus ‘Cosaí’ Fitzgerald (FG) and his party colleague and Leas-Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Bobby O’Connell.

Cllr. Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald has been elected cathaoirleach of the Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District.

The annual meeting of the municipal district was held today at Pobalscoil Chorcha Dhuibhne in Dingle.

Cllr Fitzgerald (Fine Gael) is a former Mayor of Kerry and was first elected to Kerry County Council in 1999.

One Fitz to Another

He assumes the chairmanship from Cllr. Breandán Fitzgerald (Fianna Fáil) who was the first cathaoirleach of the municipal district which was newly created following the 2019 local authority elections.

The incoming Cllr Fitzgerald said it was a challenging time for everyone during the current public health emergency, but he looked forward to working with colleagues and the people of the district to rebuild the local economy and support communities in the months ahead.

Kerry – A Safe Destination

He welcomed efforts to promote Kerry as a safe destination for visitors with the training of 4,000 staff underway as well as other measures to support businesses and the tourism industry through the current challenges.

He said he would work with colleagues and management to progress projects across the district.

Cllr. Bobby O’Connell was elected leas-cathaoirleach of the municipal district.
