€50M Walking and Cycling Fund Announced for Towns and Villages – Minister Foley

Minister Norma Foley urging communities to apply for a portion of the €50 million investment in walking and cycling projects in towns and villages across the country.

Minister for Education and Kerry TD Norma Foley has today welcomed the announcement of a €50 million investment in walking and cycling projects in town and villages across the country.

The project is open to all areas in Kerry for applications through Kerry County Council.

Cycling And Walking Infrastructure

The aim of this funding, which will be administered for the Department of Transport by the National Transport Authority is to support the development of high-quality cycling and walking infrastructure outside of cities.

Funded projects should be accessible, age-friendly and maximise comfort to people of all ages and abilities.

Enhancement of Community Facilities

Commenting on today’s announcement, Minister Foley said that since the onset of Covid-19 we have seen an enormous increase in cycling and walking.

“This specific funding for 2021 for high quality cycling and pedestrian infrastructure in towns and villages has the potential to greatly enhance our local community facilities,” she said.
