Disappointment at Teachers Being Let Down by Vaccine Programme – Pa Daly, TD

Kerry Sinn Féin TD, Pa Daly has expressed his disappointment at teachers being yet again side-lined due to the vaccine rollout changes.

Teachta Daly said that teachers have complained that their concerns have been ignored during the Covid-19 pandemic.

No Consultation

It was bad enough they were not consulted about the return to school after Christmas, particularly as the new variants spread more easily and many have concerns about their own health and some are living with family members who are high-risk,” said Teachta Daly.

These teachers were promised they would be prioritised in the vaccine rollout and many are angry that this decision has been overturned.

Europe’s Most Over-Crowded

Very few other front-line workers are obliged to spend more than half an hour in close contact with some of the most over-crowded classrooms in Europe.

All school staff – teachers, SNAs, school secretaries and facilities – should be prioritised.  In particular, teaching staff and SNAs who are working with students that are unable to socially distance,” Teachta Daly concluded.
