On specific autumn Sundays, since 2007, Castleisland Day Care Centre has held its charity / fundraising cycle.
Once the summer was over and the evenings began to shorten, the call went out for cyclists to get in gear for the first Sunday in September – and they never failed to oblige.
It was all so different last year and, in common with fundraising events around the world, the cyclists were grounded and the fundraisers locked down.
No Plans for 20201 Cycle
Because of the uncertainty of the times we’re living in now, there are no plans to hold this year’s run either.
However, out of the blue came a windfall, in dollars, from a friend and long-time guest of Eamon and Mary Anne Breen at their world renowned bed and breakfast house, The Island Heights.
John M. Daly sent the dollars from America – all 2,000 of them with a note expressing his appreciation and admiration for Eamon Breen and his Currow Cycling Club colleagues for the continuous fundraising efforts on behalf of the day care centre.
Centre Chairperson, Martina O’Donoghue and Nurse Manager, Marcella Finn had a full turnout on Thursday evening when Eamon and Mary Anne visited to hand over Mr. Daly’s extremely generous and very welcome donation.
Significant Announcement
Castleisland Day Care Centre management made one of the most significant announcements in its near two decade history when its re-opening to its clients was declared recently.
The Road to Recovery
Castleisland Day Care Centre is delighted that another milestone on the road to recovery has been reached with the re-opening of our day care service.
“Castleisland Day Care Centre realises the importance of maintaining meals on wheels, which was commenced at the beginning of the pandemic, and has proved to be essential to many of the people who avail of it.
We are planning on continuing the service over the next few months when we will assess the viability of both the day care and the meals on wheels service
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support throughout the pandemic and we look forward to continuing serving you in the future.”
About the Centre
Castleisland Day Care and Shanowen Place were officially opened in March 2002 by the then Minister for Health and Children Micheál Martin, TD.
