This year’s Kerry Community Games athletics finals will be based more than ever on the health and safety of participants, supporters and the many volunteers involved.

The athletics finals will be run off at An Ríocht Athletic Club grounds on Saturday and Sunday and events will get under way without fanfare or frills on this Saturday morning, August 21st. at 10am.

The measures being brought to bear on the games will mirror very much those implemented during the recent Olympic Games in Toyko.

All Necessary Structures in Place

While the highly experienced committee members have expressed the hope that things will have returned to normal for next year’s games, they have put all the necessary structures in place to ensure the safety of all concerned.

Here too, the measures reflect the Tokyo experience in that competitors must leave the ground as soon as their events are over.

Medal winners must remain on the field after the finals for the medal presentations.

Unfortunately, no family members or supporters will be allowed to enter the field for presentations.

A committee photographer will be present and photos will be forwarded to the areas.

Chairman’s Welcome

Kerry Community Games Chairman, Neilus Collins has already extended a welcome to all travelling to the games early on Saturday morning and especially to the games volunteers and all the girls and boys who are going to participate over the next two days in the Denny Community Games County Athletic finals.

“We know a lot missed out last year with the cancellation of the games due to Covid-19 and although this year’s games are a bit different it’s great to be back,” said Mr. Collins.

Filling Covid Forms

“With Covid still in our midst it’s of the upmost importance that everybody sticks to the rules over the next two days,

“Everyone should stay in their area pods, the area manager/coach must fill out the Covid forms and get the participants into the events in a safe manner.

“Unfortunately, no intermingling between areas is allowed. We hope things will return to normal next year.

Denny’s 18th Year as Sponsor

“Kerry Community Games extends sincere thanks to our main and longstanding sponsor Denny.

This is the 18th year of Denny’s generous support for Community Games and the communities of Kerry.

“Without this valued support this event would be difficult to hold. Best of luck to all the girls and boys, their coaches, and to everybody over the two days.

“Enjoy the competition and stay safe in these most unusual of times,” said Mr. Collins.

Guidelines to be Noted and Observed

There must be an area manager at the area pod until all the area’s competitors are finished competing.

Only one adult can accompany a competitor onto the grounds.

Competitors and accompanying adults must stay within their area pods. The area manager will have numbers for competitors. No playing or intermingling outside the area pods is allowed.

Competitors should leave the grounds when their competition is over.

Please comply with all instructions from Community Games personnel.
