Night of Music and Merriment for ‘Cuz’ at John Shanahan’s in July 1983

A night out to celebrate returning ‘Yank’ Terry ‘Cuz’ Teahan at McCarthy’s / John Shanahan’s Bar at No. 75 Main Street, Castleisland which was filmed and presented by twins, Gerard and Joe Walsh of Walsh Bros and loaded with the help of Barry Walsh.

The event was held and filmed in July 1983. Cuz Teahan launched his book of tunes and memoirs, ‘The Road to Glountane’ in Scartaglin on July 26-1983 and it is thought that this event was held on the previous Friday night, July 22nd.

Scartaglin Féile Cheoil Launch

Kerry goalkeeper of that time, Charlie Nelligan made an appearance and Joe Walsh commiserated with him of Kerry’s loss on the previous Sunday to Cork in the Munster final of 17-7-1983.

Cuz attended the launch of the Scartaglin Féile Cheoil on the following Friday evening, July 29th which included the unveiling of the monument to Patrick O’Keeffe by Mike Kenny.

Evening of Celebration

In this fascinating evening of celebration you’ll see spellbinding performances by the likes of Denny Lenihan of Gurteen, Dave Reidy of Knockachur, Tadhg O’Donoghue of Kilcusnan; Jim Hartnett and Noreen Broderick, Castleisland. Michael ‘Mikey’ Barrett is also prominent in the footage as is JB Brosnan from Glountane and one of Cuz’s oldest friends, Moira Drumm McCarthy.
