Despite the weather, Covid restrictions and the absence of the now traditional hot port, there was a great turnout at the Christmas morning Goal Mile at An Ríocht Athletic Club.
“As expected, donations were a bit lower this year but we still managed to raise almost €2,000 with more promised over the following days,” said event founder, Denis Brosnan.

A Welcome Return
“There was a great reception for the return of the event from the community on the morning and we thank everyone who turned up and donated or helped in spreading the word,” said Denis.

Set up in Dublin by the late Olympian and civil servant Noel Carroll in 1982, the Goal Mile will mark its 40th anniversary on Christmas Day 2022.

That’s likely to be a significant cause for celebration if, as predicted, we can declare ourselves clear and free of the current and recurring restrictions associated with the various strains of the pandemic.
