After almost two years of not being able to play basketball, St Mary’s U-14 girls finished the 2021/22 season in style when they won the AICC B competition at the weekend.

The All-Ireland playoffs were held in Gormanstown Park. St Mary’s won both of their first two qualifying games which were against Fr. Mathews and Mulroy Hoops, they went down to Portlaoise Panthers in the last group game by a single basket but went on to win the semi-final which was against Queens.

This was a close game which went down to the final seconds and ended 26 points to 24 in favour of St. Mary’s.

They went on to face Portlaoise Panthers again in the final. The game was once again closely contested but St. Mary’s, who led throughout, took the win on a score line of St. Mary’s 29 Portlaoise Panthers 27.
