Work began on Tuesday on the leveling and resurfacing of part of the town park walk.
The area from the western side of the pavilion at An Ríocht to the Crageens Bridge is the first stretch of the pathway to be ‘tarred’ for now.
When funds become available to allow the committee to continue with this work it will do so.
“We would like to thank Kerry County Council for the support and funding to allow us to resurface part of the pathways,” said Tom O’Leary, volunteer works supervisor.
An Ongoing Project
“This is an ongoing project and we hope that people might support a fundraiser that we hope to start soon.
“The park is widely used daily and is an invaluable facility for the locality,” said Mr. O’Leary.
Locals are delighted to see the work beginning this week and cited the facility as their ideal refuge during the lock-down of the past two years.
Stones from the Old Poorhouse
The committee now hopes that the community will support a fundraising drive which will allow for the continuation of the tarmac surface along the path by the River Maine and up along by the boundary walls. The stones for these walls came from the demolition of the old poorhouse – and if those stones could talk.
Shanowen River Chocalate Brown
Just wondering if anyone noticed the dark, almost chocolate brown, colour of the Shanowen River this morning or does anyone know what caused the water to be so thick and dirty ?
It was in stark contrast at the meeting of the waters just by the Crageens Bridge with the clear, spring of the River Maine.
