Kilmurry NS players are no strangers to togging out for a final in this particular competition, after taking home the trophy back in 2020.
On this occasion, Kilmurry NS, Cordal played St. Teresa’s Kilfynn in an exciting and skilful four and five teacher schools final in Austin Stack Park.

Upright Hit Twice

Kilmurry got off to a bright start hitting the upright twice before Tadhg McCarthy scored the opening goal of the game.
Kilmurry added another 1-1 with a goal from Jamie Nolan and a point by the very impressive Leah Griffin before Kilfynn opened their scoring with a well taken point.
Kilmurry defenders Shay O’Connor and captain, Cillian Moroney were outstanding in defence keeping Kilfynn at bay, with a few well judged interceptions by goalkeeper Killian Horgan. Kilmurry continued to play lovely football with siblings Adam and Leah Griffin combining well in the middle of the field to leave Kilmurry leading 3-5 to 1-2 at half time.
Kilflynn Comeback
Kilmurry started the second half with two further points before Kilfynn started their comeback. Kilflynn scored four points in a row before Kilmurry added another point to their tally.
Kilflynn scored a cracking goal which brought them right back into the game with only a goal separating the teams.
Kilmurry’s midfielder Danny Murphy kicked the last two points of the game and securing victory.
Róisín’s Brainwave
On the same evening, fourtth class student Róisín O’Donoghue had the brainwave to make blue and yellow headbands and wristbands, to support her teammates.
Róisín then decided to combine her support for her school while also raising funds for Ukraine at the same time by selling her handmade goods and she managed to raise over €140 for her commendable efforts.
Wonderful Support Acknowledged
Kilmurry National School would like to acknowledge the wonderful support they received on the day from families, neighbours and friends of the school and to Cordal GAA Club and George O’Connor for their continued support.
And finally a special words of thanks to coaches and teachers, Eilís Lynch and Joanne Brosnan for training, encouraging and showing the children what respect and being part of a team is really all about.
