When I first heard about the proposed Castleisland Community Indoor Sunday Market in early April it didn’t even have a name.

Since then it has been quietly christened and has had its future hectically and meticulously planned for.

It will be launched on the coming Sunday morning, May 15th at the local community centre with an official opening time of 11am and it will run weekly from that time to 2pm.

And also, when I first heard of it I ventured an opinion here that, as an event, it holds the potential and promise to change the way people in the Castleisland area spend their Sunday mornings – and that hasn’t changed.

Market in the Main Hall

The planning of the market has gone from notions of holding it in one corner of the community centre to bringing it centre stage to the main hall.

“We’ve got enquiries from 14 stall holders and we have commitments from 12 of those and that’s a good start,” sad centre events organsier, Namh Whelan.

“We put out a call from people working in the area of the arts such as hand-made crafts and goods and baking and we’ve certainly got a great variety to start off with and that’s what we were hoping for,” said Niamh.

€10 Per Market Stall

Tables / stalls are being charged at €10 per market and entry for the public will be on a small donation basis which will be shared between local charities.

“Manager Don Rogers and I think that the market will be a great opportunity for locals to showcase their goods and support their own community at the same time.

“And it will provide the locals with an opportunity to meet and mingle for a couple of hours on Sunday mornings from now on,” said Niamh.
