Staff and pupils at Loughfouder National School enjoyed an end of year celebration day which they enjoyed in glorious sunshine.
They were delighted to be joined by Kerry football stars Lorraine Scanlon and Diarmuid O’Connor who chatted to the children and had photos taken with them.
The celebrated guests later helped to raise awarded flags along with some of the sixth class children.
Flags and STEM Awards
The celebrations revolved around a number of achievements including: the school’s eighth Green Flag focusing on Global Citizenship and Travel; the Discover Primary Science Badge of Excellence which is a third level of achievement in STEM awards.
“It also took in the awarding of the Blue Star Flag for European studies which included a visit from MEP Seán Kelly for a classroom question and answer session earlier in the year,” said Principal Elizabeth Lane.
Hen Harrier Project
“The completion of the school’s new yard wall murals by Tralee artist Mike O’Donnell and which was grant funded by the Hen Harrier Project.
“The murals depict the themes of flora and fauna of the Sliabh Luachra area as well as sport, music and health and well-being which are part of the ethos of the school.
“Included are amazing portraits of: David Clifford, Seanie O’Shea and Lorraine Scanlon in action.
“Great credit is due to our senior class teacher, Emer O’Shea who coordinated all of the projects,” said Ms. Lane.
