Castleisland Revamp Programme Should be Replicated Throughout Ireland – Minister O’Brien

North, East and West Kerry Development (NEWKD) welcomed Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development Joe O’Brien,TD to their Revamp Furniture Shop on Castleisland’s Lower Main Street on Tuesday.

The shop is operated under a Community Services Programme (CSP) administered by the Department of Rural and Community Development.

John Stack, NEWKD chairperson and Pat O’Shea, NEWKD treasurer welcomed the minister on his arrival.

Community Support

Revamp Manager, Marie Keane introduced the staff who expressed their delight to be part of such a positive initiative, and how much support they get from the community both locally and throughout a wide hinterland.

Trisha Dowling outlined the background to the project and its achievements to date and thanked the Minister for his ongoing support and genuine interest in Revamp.

A Model to be Replicated

Minister O’Brien congratulated all concerned – especially all the staff – on a wonderful achievement in making Revamp CSP such a success on many fronts, and noted that it was a model that government hoped to replicate throughout the country.

The Green Party Minister O’Brien also noted that the programme of work at Revamp in Castleisland not only helps stop dumping and waste, it also provides employment and up-skilling opportunities for members of the Travelling community locally.
