Pa Daly, Sinn Féin TD for Kerry, has called on the HSE to extend the sample audit of North Kerry CAMHS files to all files dating back 15 years as a matter of urgency.
Teachta Daly said that, while disturbing, it is not a surprise to hear the news that the HSE has further concerns about North Kerry CAMHS patients.
“There are reports that the NCHD at the centre of the South Kerry CAMHS scandal may have been assigned to North Kerry CAMHS patients.
Announcement Six Months Ago
“The audit into North Kerry CAMHS patients was announced six months ago. The scope was limited to a sample of 10% of current patients, or about 50 cases.
“Despite numerous requests by myself to the Minister for Health and the HSE to extend this sample to a full review of all North Kerry CAMHS patients over the past 15 years, the HSE stuck to its path.
Over-Medication Concerns
“I made these requests after talking with a large number of parents and former patients who had concerns about over-medication, lack of follow up and upsetting side-effects in their children.
“Unfortunately my requests fell on deaf ears. The answers these families are seeking have been unnecessarily prolonged.”
