Halla Na Féile – Hall of Fame

Our parish hall has been the focal point of so many happy memories for us over the years.

From plays and concerts to sales of work, youth clubs, dances and discos, badminton, pilates, ICA and to the Over 55 dinners that my parents loved attending. This building is at the heart and soul of our entire community.

Sadly, due to a mortal blow levelled by the pandemic, this venue was in danger of extinction. We say a big thanks to the valiant work by Ann Connolly and Kay Walsh over the years to keep the hall afloat.

Handing Over the Torch

These wonderful women are now handing over the torch to a new Brosna Parish Hall Committee. The volunteers are: William Curtin as chairperson; Michael McAuliffe as secretary; Mary Gallivan as assistant secretary; Tim Geaney as treasurer; Michelle Geaney as PRO and general members as follows: Mary Ann Moloney, Lynda Carroll, Gearoid Keating, Danny Downey and John Murphy and Margaret Curtin.

The purpose of this new committee is to revive the hall as a centre and make it a vibrant asset to our community hosting children’s events, fitness classes, drama groups, as a meeting space and so forth.

Repairs and Maintenance

The first step in the rehabilitation of the hall is to address the urgent and necessary repairs and maintenance. To help reach the necessary financial targets to make the Hall viable and bring it up to code, the Committee has set up a GoFundMe page on Brosna Parish Hall Facebook page.  You can click on the link here to make a donation – big or small:  https://gofund.me/2e793cf4

Grants Applied For

To support this fundraising initiative, the committee has plans to host a fundraising concert after Christmas. Grants have been applied for too. For anyone wishing to donate and not on Facebook, please reach out to any of the committee members to make a donation in person.  Let’s dig deep and breathe new life into this vital parish resource.

GAA News

The North Kerry Championship quarter final was played in Duagh on Sunday.

A strong Beale side faced our determined Brosna squad under a sky filled with rainbows and rain clouds.

The game was tight from the throw in through to the final whistle. Beale pulled ahead briefly in the first 10 minutes but once Brosna gained ascendancy on the scoreboard, they held on. A great team performance by Brosna who showed cool heads under pressure. FT Score Brosna 0-12. Beale 0-10.

Brosna progress to the semi final against Listowel Emmets. This game is scheduled to take place in Duagh on Sunday, November 20th at 2.30pm.

Other fixture news is our KnockBrosna minors are in the division 2 final against St Senan’s on November 19th at 2pm in Moyvane. Let’s bring support to our fabulous minors.

A Standing Ovation

Anyone walking on the GAA track can’t help but admire our newly painted spectator stand.

A big thank you to the team of DenJoe O’Connor, Timmy O’Connor and Steve McAuliffe  who contributed time, energy and equipment to elevate our GAA Stand to new-found aesthetic glory.

Let There be Light

Are you working towards a fitness goal for Christmas or simply like to get out and stretch your legs each evening ?

If so, you will be delighted to see the walking track lights are on each evening from 6pm to 8.30pm. A wonderful amenity for the parish.
