Seán Butler: Patrick O’Keeffe Young Musician of the Year Award 2022

Scartaglen native and Castleisland Community College student, Seán Butler is progressing into a talented young musician.

Learning the button accordion since the age of ten, Castleisland Community College student, Seán Butler is progressing into a talented young musician.

Presently being taught by Con Moriarty, Kilcummin and Mike Brosnan, Killarney School of Music, he became joint recipient of the Patrick O’Keeffe Young Musician of the Year Award 2022.

Seán was partnered with and tutored by musician Paudie O Connor for three weeks previous to the festival.

On the Session Trail

He played solo and also accompanied Paudie at the Sliabh Luachra concert in the River Island Hotel. He also played in the session trail along with other young musicians during the festival and he performed a solo at the schools’ traditional teen session.

This weekend, Seán will perform in the upcoming concert of the Handed Down series in Scartaglin Heritage Centre on Saturday, November 12th.

Lunchtime Music Club

Seán, a third year student in Castleisland Community College, is a regular member of the lunchtime music club at the college and he also plays at schools events.

He has been known on occasions to treat both students and teachers to a tune or two at the end of a class when he has his button accordion on hand!
