Minister Foley Welcomes Sports Energy Support Scheme and Sheepmen’s Payments

Minister Norma Foley advising clubs to engage directly with their organisations regarding the scheme.

Minister for Education and Kerry TD Norma Foley has welcomed the announcement of a new €35 million fund established to support National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGB’s) and their affiliated clubs in dealing with their rising energy costs during the winter period.

Funding guidelines have been disseminated to all NGB’s funded by Sport Ireland. The closing date for applications from these organisations will be Friday, November 25th 2022.

Direct Engagement Advised

Clubs affiliated to Sport Ireland-funded NGB’s have been advised to engage directly with their relevant organisation about any queries they may have in relation to the scheme.

Depending on the level of submissions, the outcome of those deliberations will be communicated to NGB’s in December.

Funds to Flow from January

These bodies will begin the disbursement of this funding to their relevant clubs and affiliate organisations from January 2023 onwards.

Minister Foley said that diverse and inclusive sporting organisations are at the heart of communities the length and breadth of Kerry.

“This new funding scheme will provide targeted and timely funding to local clubs ensuring that they can continue to operate during a difficult winter period,” she said.

Minister Foley Welcomes over €1.6 million in Payments for Kerry Sheep Farmers

Minister Norma Foley has also welcomed funding of €1,684,424 to 1,535 Kerry farmers in advance payments under year six of the Sheep Welfare Scheme. 

In total the Department of Agriculture will pay out €15.5 million in advance payments to 17,500 farmers under this tranche of the Sheep Welfare Scheme

Minister Foley said: “I welcome this vital funding which will provide a significant and timely financial boost to individual farmers, our important sheep sector in general and farm families in Kerry.”
