The Christmas season begins in Castleisland Community College with the Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box Appeal each year.

The Shoe Box Appeal celebrates the spirit of Christmas with the students donating shoe boxes to children in need.

“It’s a reminder to all of us to help those less fortunate as the children who receive these shoe boxes receive no other present for Christmas,” said Doreen Killington. Ms. Killington, a teacher in the school, co-ordinates the project there every year.

“Having worked for Irish Aid in Central America and Africa it’s a project I love to do every year as I have witnessed and lived in the communities where the shoe boxes go,” she said.

“The items from schools are the most treasured as they offer some hope to a better future. The shoe box appeal is a wonderful means of relaying to students that they have the power to make a difference and bring tremendous joy to another child.

“There was a fantastic response from students with 141 boxes received along with cash donations as well.’ Santa is on his way,” said Ms. Killington.
