Two natives of Castleisland were among over sixty teachers who retired between 2020 and 2023 and who were honoured by the Limerick City branch of the Irish National Teachers Organisation recently.

INTO President John Driscoll and P S Ó Conaill, President of the Retired Teachers Association, travelled to Limerick for the occasion.

Due to Covid restrictions, there were no retirement celebrations in 2020, 2021 or 2022. This accounts for the unusually large number of retirees honoured this year.

Over 75 Years of Service

Jan O’Sullivan, nee Hannon, taught in Corpus Christi National School, Moyross for thirty-five years in total and filled the role of deputy principal for twenty years.

She is very fondly remembered by all her past pupils and left a rich legacy in the entire community in Moyross.

Joe Lyons taught in Lisnagry National School for twenty six years before moving to Ballybrown National School where he served as principal for fifteen years until retirement in January of 2021. Joe is a former chairman of Limerick City INTO and is currently busy in his role as National Chairman of Cumann na mBunscol.
