St. Pat’s Secondary School Senior Football team and mentors continued their successful season on Saturday last, February 11th when they contested the final of the Corn Sheain Ui Mhurchu.

While this was a Munster final, it came down to two Kerry teams to battle it out for the honours. Gaelcholáiste Ciarraí, Tralee was the opposing team on a crisp February day in Firies GAA Club club grounds in Farranfore.

Two Well Prepared Teams

With only a light breeze, it proved to be the ideal day for a fine contest between two well prepared and tactically astute teams.

While there were some fine individual performances on both sides, what stood out was the great teamwork, patience and commitment shown from throw in to the final whistle.

The final scoreline of St. Patrick’s 2-12 – Gaelcholáiste 0-6 was greeted with scenes of celebrations as Knocknagoshel brothers and joint captains, Jack and Cathal McElligott accepted the cup on behalf of St.Pats.

All-Ireland Semi Final Beckons

St Patrick’s Secondary School is now looking forward to an All-Ireland semi-final which is provisionally scheduled for February 25th. against the winners of the Connacht provincial championships.

“On behalf of everyone at St. Patrick’s Secondary School I would like to thank the team and mentors for their hard work and dedication, their knowledge and experience is a vital cog in the success of this school team,” Deputy Principal Tim Long.

Words of Thanks

“Also, I want to acknowledge the parents of the players involved, they have supported the school every step of the way in dropping and collecting to trainings and attending games all over the province.

“Finally, a word of thanks to all of the local GAA clubs for their continued support and co-operation, days like this would not be possible without that great community commitment to sporting achievement. A day to be celebrated,” said Mr. Long.
