One of the rare, remaining couple of big days in Castleisland is coming towards us at an alarming rate and, I believe, that the long range weather forecast for that weekend is good.

On that very note, an important meeting of the organising committee of the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held in the River Island Hotel tonight at 8pm.

Important because the meeting involves local Garda representatives and safety issues will top the agenda.

Garda Advice

It was at the instigation of Garda advice a few years ago that the starting point for the parade was moved from the Tralee Road industrial area to the yard of the more accommodating Castleisland Co-Op Mart.

Anyone wishing to get involved in stewarding or volunteering in any capacity in the running of the event will be more than welcome to drop into the hotel tonight at 8pm.

God be good to Helen Hussey-Leane and Aeneas but it was Helen’s pride in her local town that drove her to organising Castleisland’s first ever St. Patrick’s Day Parade back in 1989.

She worked hard to make it a success and visited schools and businesses with that in mind.

Crack of Dawn

The current group members, under the leadership of Cllr. Charlie Farrelly, were out at the crack of dawn on Sunday morning – a 7am in fact – making the town all proud of itself with flags and banners in advance of the big day.

If you need any further information on getting involved, you could drop into the River Island Hotel tonight or you could contact either Cllr. Farrelly on 087 2056150 or Pat Hartnett on 087 4191436.
