June 30th Deadline for Entry to KDYS/An Garda Síochána Soccer Blitz

The Kerry Diocesan Youth Service (KDYS) in partnership with An Garda Síochána is running its annual seven-a-side Soccer Blitz on Thursday, July 6th beginning at 6pm.

‘The Garda League’ as it was known in its origins was brought into being in 2003 by now retired Sgt. John O’Mahony in close cooperation with the late Georgie O’Callaghan and it was an inter-estate competition.

Now it is being organised by Chris Brosnan, Youth Justice Worker, Key Service, KDYS and Garda Niamh Corkery, Castleisland Garda Station, will be held at Castleisland AFC’s Georgie O’Callaghan Park at Castleisland Community College.

Applications Invited

Applications are invited for teams from the Castleisland area who are interested in taking part.

There are three age categories: Primary Schools fourth and fifth and sixth classes with U-15s and U18s.

The competitions will be supported once again by local business Stuart Auctioneers and Castleisland AFC as well as other volunteers to help co-ordinate the event.

Teams Entered by June 30th

Teams comprise of seven to ten players. Any teams interested, please contact Chris Brosnan 086-41341836 or Garda Niamh Corkery 085 8838959 or alternatively call into KDYS, Lower Main Street, Castleisland or Castleisland Garda Station for an application form.

There is a small charge of €2 per player. Only rubber studs will be allowed on the Astro-turf pitch and this applies to both players and coaches. Applications must be received by 5pm on Friday, June 30th.

The KEY Service is funded by the Ireland EU Structural and Investment fund and the European Social Fund through the Department of Justice and Equality.
