Castleisland’s August Basketball Coaching Sessions and Blitz for Hospice

Two local coaches have taken it upon themselves to raise funds for Kerry Hospice this autumn.

Denny Porter and Michéal Cahill, with the support of Castleisland Community Centre, will be running skills and development sessions for boys and girls aged from U-10 to U-14 this coming August.

Both coaches are delighted to have the opportunity to support such a worthy cause.

“We approached the local fundraising branch with our idea and they were absolutely delighted with the offer. Basketball is my passion so to be able to support such a worthy cause while doing something I love is great,” said Denny.

For a Great Cause

Michéal Cahill is equally excited about the upcoming event: “We heard that Kerry Hospice is planning to extend the existing facility in Tralee. It is a great cause and we are happy that we can help out, we have gotten a great response from those who have heard about the event so far.

“Everyone is in agreement that Kerry Hospice is such a worthy cause, many people have had family or friends who have used the facility in UHK,” said Micheál

Brilliant Achievement Records

Both coaches have brilliant records of achievement, they have been coaching together for the past number of years and this past season they took their teams to victory in the U-14 boys cup and

league and were winners of the All-Ireland division one.

They also coached the U-12 boys’ team who were winners of the cup and league, the Limerick under 12 blitz, All-Ireland blitz and they also coached the U-13 boys’ team who were winners of the All-Ireland community games.

Local and National Titles

Denny Porter has also coached numerous local teams to national titles over many years.

The skills and development event will run on August 8th and 15th for U-10 boys and girls, August 9th and 16th for U-12s and August 10th and 17th for under 14s.

The sessions for boys will be from 10am -11.30am each day and girls’ sessions will be from 11.30am to 1pm.

Blitz for All Participants

The cost of the taking part is just €20 and this covers both sessions and a blitz for all participants which will take place on Sunday, August 20th.

There will be an opportunity on the day of the blitz to make a donation to Kerry Hospice also.
