Lyreacrompane NS Pupils and Delia Prepare for Pottery Exhibit

Castleisland based ceramic artist Delia O’Donoghue has been conducting a Kerry County Council funded art project with a group of pupils of Lyreacrumpane National School for the past few months.

The result of their project, which was facilitated by the Kerry Diocesan Youth Service (KDYS), will be unveiled on this Friday, October 20th from 6pm to 7:30pm at the community centre in Lyre. 

Open Invitation

The management and staff of the school have issued a joint and open invitation to all in the community, the staff of KDYS Castleisland and of the Creative Ireland Kerry Programme to attend.

“We have embarked on an exciting collaboration facilitated by Kerry County Council and the incredible local artist, Delia O’Donoghue,” the invitation revealed.

“Over the past few months, the young talents from KDYS Castleisland and the youth participating in our inspiring sessions at the Lyracrompane Community Centre have poured their creativity into a project that beautifully represents their essence and the vibrant community spirit,”

The Power of Art

“Witness the passion, dedication and talent which has fired this project and celebrate the power of art to connect and inspire.

“Let’s come together to celebrate their achievements and the unifying force of creativity in our lives,” – it included.

Delia’s Own Work

Delia O’Donoghue’s own work consists of both functional and decorative ceramics. She is very much influenced by nature, Kerry and Castleisland’s heritage and history.

Though her studio and shop is in Castleisland she now, also, has some of her work in the Beach Hive in Ballybunion and much closer to home in The Forge Restaurant and, soon, in Ballyseedy Garden Centre.

Children’s Book on the Way

Delia is currently working on writing and illustrating some children’s books based on her latest collection of pottery, the Irish wildlife series. The book series that will accompany the pottery will be centred around some animal friends and will feature local landmarks and stories.

Music Festival Pieces

Her studio has also been commissioned to create the pieces which will be presented to the young musicians, Róisín O’Connor and Éamonn Ó Meachair and the recipient of the Dedication to the Music of Sliabh Luachra Award, P.J. Teahan at this month’s Patrick O’Keeffe Traditional Music Festival in Castleisland.
