At the recent annual general meeting of Castleisland District Heritage, which was conducted by Zoom, the committee formally welcomed its new secretary, Mícheál Ó Ciardubháin.

Micheál, a teacher at Gaelscoil Aogáin here in Castleisland fills the position which has remained open since the death of his uncle and founder / secretary Colm Kirwan in 2020.

Steve Wilson, who lives in Tralee, was also formally welcomed as treasurer, and steps into the shoes of founder treasurer, Tomo Burke who is embracing retirement.

Committee member Jerry Flynn, who joined the committee in recent times, took up the reins as vice-chair.

Regret at Retirement

It was with regret that John Roche, chairman of the project since its foundation in 2014, announced the retirement of John Galvin of Scartaglin.

John, who has been a very active and supportive member of the committee for many years had his letter of retirement read aloud.

In its course, John expressed his enjoyment during his period with the project where he found the committee ‘helpful, courteous and welcoming.’

Trojan Work Over a Decade – Almost

“I met and got to know wonderful people that otherwise I would not have come across. I hope that I contributed in some small way to the success of the committee which has done Trojan work since its commencement,” said Mr. Galvin.
