Of all the years of the annual Christmas morning GOAL Mile at An Ríocht Athletic Club this year has an added poignancy.

This Christmas morning the injured, homeless and orphaned children of Gaza are front and centre in the thoughts of the organisers.

The children are also front and centre of the merciless onslaught on their family homes and homeland. It was probably always that way in war situations but we didn’t see it or hear the vivid accounts of their hopelessness, suffering and terror morning, noon and night.

No Medicines – Hospitals Destroyed

GOAL Mile chief organiser, Denis Brosnan said the fact that hospitals are being destroyed at the rate they are, the children’s hopes  go with them.

“Children are being transferred from the shells of one hospital to another and there is not enough or no medical supplies to treat them. That’s an appalling situation for them and that’s why, in our own small way, we’re donating the GOAL Mile proceeds to their cause. The gates of An Ríocht will open between 10:30am and 12:30pm,” said Mr. Brosnan.

It is strongly rumoured that hot port specialist, Pats Broderick and his boiling kettles will also be in attendance.
