GAA News: An Unforgettable Experience

St. Stephen’s Day at 1pm head to Páirc na Féile for an unforgettable experience.

The Parish League, a cross between the Champion’s League and Gladiators, is hosting the epic clash between The Braonach Slashers and Best of the Rest. There are a lot of reputations on the line here. More than a few players from the Jurassic Era will be dusting off their vintage boots for another lap of honour.

Young players will try to prove the adage that youth and enthusiasm will always outdo age and experience. Whether you are an anthropologist, a psychologist, a biologist, or a philosopher, don’t miss out on an opportunity to blow the Christmas cobwebs away in the company of your friends. Live Twitter feed from the sidelines will keep those of you abroad in the loop. All funds raised on the day are for the Con Curtin Traditional Music Festival. See you in the trenches on December 26th at 1pm.

Sad Farewells in the Parish

The parish lost three citizens over the past weeks.

Mr. Pat Joe Murphy of Knockavinna, after a long and good life, went to join his late wife Joan. Pat Joe will be remembered as a great man, interested in his community and his family.

We send our condolences to all who knew and loved him. RIP.

We also remember Ms. Margaret Geaney of this Parish who passed away suddenly. Wishing her family and friends comfort at this sad time. So many of us recalled her from our school days. You are gone far too soon, Margaret.

Lastly, we remember Norrie Broderick who passed away after a long and good life. I am taking an excerpt from her eulogy eloquently delivered by her granddaughter, Lenora.

In Norrie’s opinion she was only one of many women of her generation who simply did their duty as wives, mothers and members of their community.

But we should never forget that women like Norrie, a dying breed, were the silent warriors who carved a path for their children and grandchildren, allowing them to pursue their dreams.

Without complaint or regret, women like Norrie are the source of true inspiration to all of us today. What a fitting tribute. Rest in Peace.

Wishing on a Star

Merry Christmas wonderful Brosna. We’ve another year under our belts here in the parish.

As always, I wake each day filled with gratitude that I won life’s lotto and get to live, socialise and connect with neighbours and friends in this magical and most beautiful corner of Kerry.

In the middle of all the madness of this week, take a minute and stand under a star-filled sky, imbibe the stillness and purity of the air, and make a wish that a little of the enriched simplicity that we enjoy each day can find its way into the hearts of those in war zones, suffering illness, feeling isolated, or simply disconnected from the wonder of living. Thank you all for making 2023 a joyful experience. I await with eagerness for 2024, when we get to unpack the mysteries of a new year. Let’s make it spectacular.
