Local history will show that the Sliabh Luachra Chess and Draughts Club was established at Gaelscoil Aogain on this Friday night, January 13th between 7pm and 8.45pm.
Membership is open to all. Or, as organiser and chess player, Willie Reidy suggested:
“We will welcome kings, queens and rook-ies you won’t have to pawn your castle or get the blessings of your bishop to join – even if you and your mates have a chequered past.
Ancient Games
Community Games teams from the general area have enjoyed success competing in the ancient games and it is for this very reason that the club is being set up now.
“We want to encourage as many players, past and present, to join up and we would love to see people of all ages coming to the Gaelscoil tonight. Even if you just want to check us out you can just pop in and have a chat and see if you’d like to join us for our weekly session there,” said a pun prone Willie.
Bring Boards and Pieces
There is a €1 fee per night to cover costs and prospective members are being asked to bring their boards and pieces if they have any – if not – don’t worry – just come along tonight.
