Sad news winging its way across the atlantic from Boston over the weekend of the passing of Knockeen, Castleisland native Esther Cronin at 61.

Esther was on the office staff of Browne’s Cash Stores for many years before emigrating to the US and settling down there.

She and her Knockeen neighbour, Mary Frances Woulfe, were committed, playing members of the Castleisland based Kingdom Badminton Club throughout the 1980s.

The news was posted by the Boston Northeast Youth GAA Club of which Esther’s husband Gerry is a valued member.

As you will see in the notice below, Esther’s funeral and burial will be conducted here in Castleisland on Saturday, March 14th.

The Late Esther ‘Ellen’ Cronin, Knockeen, Castleisland, Co. Kerry and Milton, Boston, USA.

We regretfully heard the news of the passing of Esther ‘Ellen’ Cronin, wife of Gerry McMahon, at her home in Milton, Massachusetts on Wednesday following a long and brave fight with cancer.

Visiting hours are next Wednesday, March 11, at the Gormley Funeral Home, Center St West Roxbury from 5-8 PM.

Esther will be laid to rest in her hometown of Castleisland, Co, Kerry, Saturday, March 14.

CRONIN, Esther of Milton, formerly of Castleisland, County Kerry Ireland passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friends in the comfort of her home on Friday, March 6, 2020. Born March 23, 1959, she was the devoted daughter of James Vincent and Pauline (O’Sullivan) Cronin.

Loving wife of Gerard ‘Gerry’ McMahon. Cherished sister of James Cronin of Australia, Bart Cronin of Ireland, Martina Cronin and her husband David Quilty of Ireland, Frank Cronin of Ireland and Liz Cronin and Paddy Coyne of the Netherlands.

Esther is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews in Ireland and the Netherlands.

Funeral Arrangements

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours in the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 from 4pm. to 8pm.

Funeral and burial will take place in Castleisland, County Kerry Ireland.
