Deputy Michael Healy Rae has called on the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar TD, to extend the deadline of the Small Business Assistance Scheme for COVID (SBASC) with applications for phase one closed this week and a decision on the second quarter 2021 will be made in due course.
“SBASC gives grants to businesses who are not eligible for the Government’s COVID Restrictions Support Scheme (CRSS), the Fáilte Ireland Business Continuity grant or other direct sectoral grant schemes.
“This scheme aims to help businesses with their fixed costs, for example: rent, utility bills and security,” said Deputy Healy Rae.
Payment Grants Available
A payment grant of €4,000 is available for the first quarter of this year for businesses with 250 employees or less, a turnover of over €50,000 or if the turnover of the business over the claim
period is estimated to be no more that 25% of previous levels.
However Deputy Michael Healy Rae called on Minister the Minister Varadkar during parliamentary questions to reopen the first phase.

“Minister as you are aware the small business assistance scheme for Covid affected business closed for applications at 11.59 on the night of the 21/4/21, because of the fact that people are not moving around as much or interacting as much with each other.
“I actually know of many people who missed this deadline unfortunately. They were entitled to apply but did not do so within the time frame.
“Could I humbly and respectively ask that you might look at increasing this deadline and extending it further,” said Deputy Healy Rae in conclusion.
