Castleisland Community College students Caitríona Ní Mhurchú agus Eilís Nic Ionnrachtaigh were both awarded a gradam from Gael Linn in the Comórtas Oráide an Phiarsaigh 2021.
Both students reached the final nine competitors in Munster and they each presented a three minute speech ‘as Gaeilge’ based on topics provided by Gael Linn.
High Standard of Irish
While they didn’t qualify for the final, they were both commended for the high standard of Irish they displayed and their excellent presentations skills.
Mairéad Ní Neachtain from Gael Linn praised both students and stated the standard was extremely high as they were also competing against students from third year in the Comórtas Sóisearach / junior competition.
Encouragement As Gaeilge
Mairéad concluded her visit to the school with a final word of encouragement while taking the ‘Mol an Óige’ literally when she addressed the students with the seanfhocal – Beidh lá eile ag an bPaorach!
The seanfhocal – literally meaning old word – Beidh lá eile ag an bPaorach is said to have been the final utterance of a man named Power from the south east of Ireland as he stood on the gallows after his part in the failed insurrection of 1798 in Wexford. And it means, somewhat ironically: Power will have another day.
