A combination of life’s impediments came in the way last Sunday of local man Patrick McCarthy’s plans to complete his 100km walk in ten days.
A family illness and bad weather all ganged up on Patrick and he had to cancel his planned Sunday afternoon 5km 1pm community walk from the local rugby club – post event teas / coffees / buns and all.
However, Patrick hopes to be back on track on the coming Sunday afternoon from the Castleisland RFC headquarters at The Crageens at 1pm and he’s throwing out the invitations again for members of the local community to join him on the short walk on the final leg of his 100km journey.
Plans for Next Sunday
“We planned to leave the Castleisland Rugby Club at 1pm sharp last Sunday but because of family matters I couldn’t go through with it.
“So on the coming Sunday at 1pm I’m hoping that members of the local community will join me on a walk down through the town of Castleisland out the Tralee Road around the bypass to the Killarney Road, up the town and back to rugby club for tea, coffee, buns and water … everyone is welcome,” said Patrick.
Raised €3,000 for UHL
Patrick has quite a bit of form in the area of fundraising and last February he raised in the region of €3,000 in a short space of time and with the help on a online fundraising site.
This was for the Mid Western Cancer Centre at University Hospital Limerick where one of his aunts was being treated at the time.
